How Do You Find Your Marketing Niche?
Article by Will McGuire
You want to be an Internet Marketer but don’t have a product or niche. What’s your next step?
A quick google search of the term niche research shows you, on page 1, many ways to ferret out the ideal niche. The problem is that there are far too many of those ways to pursue. Going through all the information on niche research and applying it may well add several weeks or more to the time it takes you to get your marketing up and running or may simply end up confusing or overwhelming you.
It’s true that finding just the right niche at just the right time can be lucrative. It’s equally true that huge money is being made every day in markets that are obvious, accessible, and easy to identify.
The problem with a true niche market, is that there is limited income potential. If you identify the market and the need and become an early supplier, that limited potential may be quite enough to make you rich, but the odds are against you being so fortunate.
On the other hand there are three huge markets, each of which dwarfs all other niche markets combined. These are the markets for Health, Wealth, and Relationships.
The key to an ultra successful business is finding a burning, passionate, even desperate, need and supplying a product that meets that need. Catering to the stamp-collectors of the world may well be profitable, if you know your market intimately, provide value, and service. There are even, probably, passionate stamp collectors and many successful businesses cater to “Hobby Markets.”
But Weight Loss? People are passionate about that. Billions are spent yearly trying to lose weight. Health? If you have chronic back-pain, you’re likely willing, even eager to pay for something that will really help.
Health, Wealth and Relationships. Certainly there’s a lot of competition in those areas. But there’s even more money. And consumers spend eagerly in those areas. A new-comer can pursue excellence, beat competition, and build a strong business in a relatively short period of time, despite the fact that these niches have been around since the internet went public.
Spend the time, if you like, and do extensive niche research. Take a gamble, and dive into the niche you find. If you’re wrong, the great thing about Internet Marketing is the low cost of start-up compared to brick and mortar, and learning from our mistakes is effective education.
Or else choose Health, Wealth or Relationships, whichever area you think you may have the most expertise or aptitude for, and then apply niche research techniques within the chosen area.
Remember, you want a group of people with a problem they passionately (desperately?) need to solve. You provide them with the product that solves their problem, they’re happy, you make money.
How the heck do you come up with such a product? Stay tuned and I’ll cover that in the next article or two.
